چکیده

Contour Advection with Surgery (CAS) is used to simulate turbulent premixed combustion. This paper presents results from calculations of methane/air mixtures and ethylene/air mixtures with equivalence ratios ranging from 0.8 to 1.6 with different turbulence intensities. The positions, thicknesses and half-angles of the turbulent flame zones are compared for each case by plotting contour maps of the time-averaged progress variable . These results are then used to calculate the overall heat release for each equivalence ratio.

On the space-time correlation of heat release rate in turbulent premixed flames

The spectral characteristics of combustion noise is dictated by the temporal correlation of the heat release rate fluctuation. This paper investigates the two-point space-time correlation of heat release rate fluctuations by analysing recent direct numerical simulation (DNS) data of turbulent premixed flames. The results show that this correlation decays rapidly in both space and time due to th...

Simulation of Dual Fuel Combustion of Direct Injection Engine with Variable Natural Gas Premixed Ratio

Nowadays, the major challenge of diesel engines development is simultaneous nitrogen oxides and soot emissions reduction without the thermal efficiency drop. Hence, different combustion concepts should be investigated to reach optimum emission and performance conditions in diesel engines without expensive aftertreatment systems. This paper presents the results of a study on a dual fuel (DF) eng...

Subgrid Combustion Modeling for Premixed Turbulent Reacting Flows *

Two combustion models for turbulent premixed combustion in the flamelet regime are developed for unsteady simulations. The first model is a convensional G equation flamelet model and the main issues discussed are the subgrid closure. The second model is based on the Linear-Eddy Model. Both models are used in simulation of turbulent stagnation point flames. The heat release and turbulence intens...

Effect of Injection Characteristics on Emissions and Combustion of a Gasoline Fuelled Partially-premixed Compression Ignition Engine

Conventional compression ignition (CI) engines are known for their high thermal efficiency compared to spark ignited (SI) engines. Gasoline because of its higher ignition delay has much lower soot emission in comparison with diesel fuel. Using double injection strategy reduces the maximum heat release rate that leads to NOx emission reduction. In this paper, a numerical study of a gasoline fuel...
